About the author: A dancer, born and raised in Munich , Germany , Elfi came to this country in 1949 and settled in Omaha , Nebraska where she opened a ballet school. To provide a showcase for her talented students, she founded the Children’s Dance Theater, which later became the Omaha Dance Theater. She wrote, choreographed and directed many original ballets such as Esmeralda, River Gold, The Little Matchgirl, the Lonely Crowd, and classics such as Firebird and excerpts from Swan Lake. In 1963, she moved to Portland , Oregon to head the Dance Department at Reed College . When she retired, she finally found time to pursue other interests like painting and writing. Elfi now lives with her husband Jim in Federal Way, WA. Dancing to War is her first book, followed by Shadow of Defeat.
